Bo Jönsson appointed Adjunct Professor at Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology
Bo Jönsson, a leading researcher, project leader and manager within product area Wire and Heating Technology's R&D department, was appointed on June 14, 2013 Adjunct Professor in the High Temperature Corrosion, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Starting in 1984 as a project leader at Kanthal AB (acquired by Sandvik in 1997), Jönsson has held several key positions including Head of R&D for Kanthal AB with global responsibility and Senior Technical Expert, Strategic projects within the business unit Heating Materials, where today he is part of the management team. He has nine active patent families and has published articles in international journals, as well as served as a board member of prestigious technology bodies.
Jönsson and his team have, among other things, developed two successful commercial alloys, Kanthal APM and Kanthal APMT, both patented internationally.
The relationship between Sandvik and Chalmers is expected to increase collaboration between the entities while ensuring Sandvik's leadership position within high temperature materials. One area of interest for Jönsson is alumina-based protection that could lead to improvements in high temperature energy conversion systems within industry and power production.
"I look very much forward to this great opportunity for interesting and stimulating discussions that hopefully will trigger new and relevant research and also the development of new products," he says.
