Sandvik to hold technical session at Furnace North America (FNA)
Bo Jönsson, Senior Technical Expert at Sandvik Heating Technology, and a professor at Chalmers Technical University, will hold a session focused on the possibilities offered by a new Kanthal® alloy at Furnace North America on Wednesday, 8 October, from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.
The topic of Professor Jönsson's presentation is:
New, advanced high-temperature FeCrAIMo alloy offers new possibilities in furnace applications
Abstract of the presentation:
The recently developed alloy Kanthal APMT™ presents new opportunities for the design of components such as furnace rollers, retorts and furnace furniture. Compared to the high temperature Ni-base alloys currently used, Kanthal APMT™ offers longer service life and higher operating temperature capability.
The alloy has a unique combination of oxidation and high temperature corrosion resistance as well as a well-defined creep resistance up to service temperatures above 1250°C (2282°F) in oxidizing atmospheres. This comes from a combination of alumina forming capability and dispersion strengthening through a unique powder metallurgical process route.
The presentation will cover the basic facts about the alloy, such as physical and mechanical properties and oxidation-corrosion behavior in various industrial protective gas atmospheres. However the main focus will be on application examples, lifetime prediction, practical user recommendations and design aspects.
FNA technical sessions
Established in 1995, FNA has become synonymous with bringing top suppliers and heat treaters, both captive and commercial, from around the world to one location for technical sessions. In addition to technical education, participants receive information on the latest developments in furnace equipment, accessories and services, and enjoy excellent opportunities for networking.
FNA's technical sessions are always highly informative, bringing the best in experts and content on the latest technology and trends shaping the heat treating industry. In 2014, FNA will host 40 technical sessions from some of the best experts and suppliers in the industry.
