Kanthal® unlocks green future for automotive testing: Electric system heats components to 1100 °C with zero emissions

June 20, Stuttgart: Heating specialist Kanthal® has launched a clean, green and powerful heating solution for modern-day test benches in the automotive testing industry.
The Kanthal® Flow Heater enables testing professionals to increase the temperature of gas flows from the standard 850 °C to 1100 °C (2012 °F) with zero emissions at point of use.
“We believe that higher temperatures and accurate conditions will become essential in automotive testing. Increasing the requirements on new materials and components helps to meet rising expectations on durability,” says Markus Mann, Manager Technology and Innovation, Kanthal®.
The higher temperature of 1100 °C facilitates more rigorous testing of new materials used in increasingly compact engine designs. By using electrical power instead of burner technology, the Kanthal® Flow Heater complies with future regulations for workplace health and safety and environmental sustainability and raises accuracy of test conditions to new levels.
“Some countries, such as Austria for example, have prohibited CO2 and NOX emissions output in automotive testing and other countries will most likely follow. This electrical heating solution matches the load capacity and performance of burners and is a pollution-free alternative,” Mann explains.
The Kanthal® Flow Heater will be demonstrated in booth 1067 at the Automotive Testing Expo Europe 2017 at Messe Stuttgart on June 20-22.
