Kanthal outlines push toward electric heating at Aluminium 2018, 9-11 October, Messe Düsseldorf
Changing from fossil fuel to electric heating in aluminium processing to reduce CO2 will be Kanthal’s headline theme as innovations are showcased at Aluminium 2018 World Trade Fair & Conference, where 27,500 visitors are expected to attend.
“In light of the Paris climate accord and the drive toward smarter processing, aluminium producers realize they need to rapidly cut down on CO2 emissions. Switching from fossil fuel burners to electric heating systems is a readily available and transformative opportunity,” says Daniel Burton, Business Manager, Kanthal Services.
At this year’s Aluminium World Trade Fair & Conference in Düsseldorf, Germany, 9-11 October, visitors to the Kanthal booth no E31 in hall 10 can benefit from expert advice and recommendations on how to jumpstart a clean tech shift – by converting from fossil fuel to electric heating.
Take for example Kanthal’s Electric Ladle Heater. The advantages of “going electric” in ladle heating are considerable and the transition is set to revolutionize safety, cost-efficiency and work environments. It is invariably safer than gas burners and more controllable, it extends the lifespan of ladles by 10%, the payback period is short, and the system can even be operated remotely on timers.
“Remote operation is near impossible with gas burners. Someone always needs to be on site to ensure flames don’t burn out and that CO2, CO and NOx doesn’t leak into the production facility. Another safety hazard with gas combustion is the build-up of water vapour which can condense and cause explosions as molten aluminium is poured into ladles,” Burton explains.
With electric heating, these risks are no longer a concern. Heat is distributed more evenly in ladles which means that wet spots, hotspots and thermal shock can be avoided. CO2 emissions are eliminated, and noise is drastically reduced, the Kanthal team will be available to discuss all these benefits and more at the Aluminium 2018 show.
A wide range of carbon free, electric heating innovations from Kanthal for both primary and secondary aluminium will be on display at Messe Düsseldorf.
Visitors will be able to weigh the potential of the Kanthal Ladle Heater, electric anode & cathode pre-heating systems, launder heaters, filter box heaters, holding furnace conversions and ingot caster heaters.
In addition, as Kanthal operates across a wide range of industries, opportunities for solving unique heating challenges can also be addressed at the booth.
“We can set up trial processes and test equipment on an industrial size level if customer have processes they wish to develop or convert to electrical heating we have the capacity to design in-house pilot plants that match customers’ processes down to the smallest detail.
“At Aluminium 2018, visitors to the Kanthal booth can expect to be able to talk to the leading experts in electric heating,” Burton concludes.
Visitors to Aluminium 2018 World Trade Fair & Conference at Messe Düsseldorf will find Kanthal at stand no E31 in hall 10.
