Cost has traditionally been the deciding factor when glass manufacturers have had to choose between gas and electric heating in their annealing lehrs. But with increasing pressure to reduce CO2 emissions, there is a growing trend toward electric.

After a shift toward gas heating in recent decades, glass manufacturers are now increasingly reverting back to electric heating when it comes to their forehearth furnaces, partly due to their higher efficiency and superior temperature control but also to reduce their carbon footprint.
