An emotional connection

When Rickard Dahlgren took charge of strategic business development he brought not just experience but a particular passion for products that are “helping people to improve their lives.”

When Rickard joined Sandvik two years ago, he had nearly a decade’s experience from management consulting. He has embraced working hands-on and long-term with implementing strategy, instead of shorter-term consulting projects. “I view strategy as an evolving team exercise that needs to be updated and nurtured. The what, why and how are so important for managers at every level,” Rickard says.

Working at Kanthal is not just about passion for his profession, there are personal reasons that explain why Rickard feels such dedication to his job. Before taking on this new role, he worked closely with the unit that makes EXERA medical fine wire. “I’m not normally a man who has easy access to his emotions, but it really struck me that our products are helping people improve their lives,” says Rickard whose closest family members have been wrestling with different types of cancer for the past six years.

“Even though our medical products are not targeting cancer treatments, I feel a strong emotional connection to what we are doing – improving people’s lives.”
