Kanthal introduces the Kanthal® Flow Heater Generation 3, the latest development of its electric process-gas heating technology.

The upgraded design combines high power density, flexible operation, and precise temperature control to help industrial companies electrify demanding high-temperature processes while improving efficiency, safety, and lifecycle performance.CaptionSimon Lile, President of Business Unit Heating Systems, Kanthal.

The Flow Heater uses patented direct electric heating technology, transferring energy directly to air and process gases as they pass through the heater core. The design supports continuous and cyclic processes and combines a compact installation footprint with greater operational flexibility and scalability.

As industrial companies accelerate decarbonization efforts, electrifying high-temperature processes remains one of the most challenging areas of the energy transition. Many of these processes have traditionally relied on combustion-based heating, creating a need for electric solutions that can meet demanding process requirements without compromising performance.

“Electrification is moving into increasingly demanding industrial processes, and customers need solutions that can meet those requirements without compromising performance,” says Simon Lile, President of Business Unit Heating Systems, Kanthal. “The continued development of the Flow Heater supports that shift.”

By transferring energy directly to the gas stream, the Flow Heater enables fast response and precise temperature control while eliminating the need for on-site combustion. Its high-power density enables a compact footprint comparable to gas-burner solutions, while modular, plug-and-play scalability supports both new installations and the electrification of existing processes.CaptionRishiraj Mukherjee, Global Product Manager, Kanthal.

“Customers across hard-to-abate industries face growing pressure to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and maintain safe operations while keeping costs under control. The latest Flow Heater was developed to meet those requirements without compromising process performance,” says Rishiraj Mukherjee, Global Product Manager at Kanthal.

The Flow Heater can be used across industries including metals production, industrial furnaces, battery manufacturing, and clean-energy technologies. Designed for long-lifecycle performance, the Flow Heater is fully refurbishable, helping customers extend equipment lifetime, reduce waste, and lower total cost of ownership.

Kanthal® Flow Heater Generation 3

The Kanthal® Flow Heater uses direct electric process-gas heating technology. Air and process gases pass directly through the heater core.

The standard range includes 10 kW, 20 kW, and 40 kW configurations. For higher power requirements, Kanthal can provide customized solutions or configure multiple Flow Heaters in parallel. Customized solutions are also available for specific gas compositions, operating pressures, and inlet temperatures, while the modular heater core can be tailored and scaled up to MW capacities.

  • Outlet temperatures up to 1,100°C (2,012°F)
  • Thermal efficiency above 95%
  • Temperature accuracy ±1°C
  • 10:1 turndown ratio
  • Standard sizes: 10 kW, 20 kW, and 40 kW
  • Scalable to MW capacities
  • Customizable for specific gases, pressures, and inlet temperatures
  • Fully refurbishable design
